REMIND ME
REMIND ME
Please sing into my itchy ears; the songs of our land, long lost to the lust of lucre.
Remind me of the times when we played under the moonlight,
Discharging roles of father and mother with the innocence of the mind.
When mothers would spank other mother's children for wrong doing without fear of a reprimand.
Remind me of the early morning rush to outsmart the others at the community well.
Please remind me of the watchful eyes laid in wait for the early morning sacrifices of Fanta and fresh eggs at the bank of the river.
Remind me of the years of innocence.
Oh, the yore days of elementary when we exchanged red garri with coloured chalk.
Remember misplacing your slate duster?
Hmmm. I did, deliberately lost mine a couple of times to spite my seamstress grandma. I ignorantly thought so. Countless times did she replace them. Such naivity!
